Difficulty: Intermediate · About 45 min · Lexus Gs300
Replace the tail light bulbs on a 1997-2005 Lexus GS300.
Tools you will need
- Ratchet
- Socket extensions
- Flat blade screwdriver
- Rust penetrant
- 10mm socket
Parts and supplies
- Tail light bulb
Steps
- Remove the tail light assembly
Pull back the trunk lining, pry off the two outer bolt covers, remove the two outer 10mm bolts, apply penetrant from inside if the inner nuts are stuck, remove the two inner 10mm nuts, disconnect the electrical connector inside the trunk, then pull the assembly free. The same steps apply to either side.
- Swap the bulbs
Working clockwise from the bottom right (reverse, turn signal, running light, brake), twist each socket counterclockwise to remove it, pull the bulb out, note its printed type number, fit the same-numbered replacement, then twist the socket back in to lock it.
- Reinstall the tail light assembly
Feed the wiring harness through its grommet hole, seat the assembly's bottom lip in the bumper, refit the two outer bolts and their covers and the two inner nuts, reconnect the electrical connector, then replace the trunk lining.
