How to Replace Serpentine Belt 11-17 Toyota Camry
Difficulty: Moderate · About 45 min · Toyota Camry
Replace the serpentine belt shown on a 2013 Toyota Camry 3.5L V6. The library groups this video with 2012–2017 Camrys, but belt routing and access can differ by engine; confirm your exact engine and routing diagram.
Tools you will need
- 14mm tensioner tool
- 10mm socket
- Ratchet
- Floor jack
- Jack stands
- Gloves
Parts and supplies
- Serpentine belt
Steps
- Record the belt path
With the engine off and cool, photograph or sketch how the old belt wraps around every pulley. Compare the new belt length and rib count with the old one.
- Release belt tension
Fit a long 14mm tool to the tensioner bolt and rotate the tensioner counterclockwise as shown. Keep fingers clear of the pinch points, slip the belt off a reachable pulley and let the tensioner return slowly.
- Remove the old belt
Work the belt off the remaining pulleys, including the crank pulley. Move the tensioner again only as needed to free the belt and tool, then pull the belt out.
- Open lower access
If you need access to the crank pulley, support the car on jack stands, remove the wheel and take out the 10mm fasteners and push clip holding the wheel-well shield.
- Route and tension the new belt
Feed the new belt around the pulleys following the recorded route and the routing diagram for this engine. Hold the tensioner back for the final pulley, then release it slowly. Check that each rib sits fully in its pulley groove.
- Check operation and refit the shield
Keep clear of moving parts and briefly run the engine while watching for a belt that walks off a pulley. Switch it off before correcting alignment. Refit the wheel-well shield and wheel, then lower the vehicle.
Check your vehicle’s repair manual for exact specifications and fit.
