Replace the battery vent tube and grommet on a 2001-2006 BMW 325Xi.
Tools you will need
- Ratchet
- Socket extensions
- 10mm socket
- 13mm socket
- Scissors
- Marker
Parts and supplies
- Battery vent hose
- Rubber grommet
Steps
- Remove the battery
Loosen the 10mm nuts to disconnect the negative then positive cables, back off the tie-down screw, remove the two 13mm tie-down bolts, then lift the battery out and pull the old vent tube and its grommet free.
- Fit the new vent tube
Measure the new hose against the old one (or, if the old one is missing, allow about 2 inches through the grommet and 10 inches to reach the battery outlet), cut it to length with scissors, fit the end connector, install the new grommet, thread the hose through it, then reinstall the battery, tie-down and both cables in reverse order.
