How to Replace CV Axle Shaft 02-05 Dodge Ram 1500

Replace a CV axle shaft on a 2002-2005 Dodge Ram 1500.
Tools you will need
- Floor jack
- Jack stands
- Ratchet
- 22mm socket
- 35mm socket
- Lug wrench
- Torque wrench
- 1/2 inch breaker bar
- Hammer
- Pry bar

- CV axle shaft
Steps
- Remove the wheel
Loosen the lug nuts and the hub nut with the truck on the ground, then raise and support it and set the wheel aside.
- Remove the old axle
Remove the hub nut, tap the axle with a hammer to break it loose from the hub, then pry it out of the transmission.
- Install the new axle
Seat the new axle in the hub and thread the hub nut back on, then use that leverage to push the other end into the transmission.
- Reinstall the wheel
Refit the lug nuts, torque the hub nut to about 185 ft-lb, then torque the lug nuts to about 120 ft-lb in a star pattern.
