Steps
- Remove the wheel
Loosen the lug nuts with a 19mm socket, then raise and support the car and pull the wheel.
- Remove the brakes for access
Unbolt and set the caliper and bracket aside (see a brake-specific guide for full detail) so the strut's lower bolts are reachable.
- Disconnect and remove the old strut
Soak the top three nuts and bottom two bolts in penetrating oil, remove the top 13mm nuts, disconnect the stabilizer link from the strut using a 17mm socket and hex wrench, unclip the ABS sensor wire, then remove the 18mm lower bolts and pull the strut free.
- Install the new strut
Hand-thread the three top nuts, bolt the bottom into the steering knuckle and torque those bolts to about 55-60 ft-lb, then torque the top three nuts to about 20-22 ft-lb.
- Reconnect the stabilizer link, ABS sensor and brakes
Tighten the stabilizer link back together, clip the ABS sensor wire back onto the strut, then reassemble the caliper and bracket.
- Reinstall the wheel
Hand-tighten the lug nuts, lower the car, then torque them to about 100 ft-lb in a star pattern, checking your owner's manual for the correct hub nut or bolt torque too.
Check your vehicle’s repair manual for exact specifications and fit.
