Replace the alternator/power steering belt on a 2007-2010 Hyundai Elantra.
Tools you will need
- Ratchet
- Socket extensions
- 12mm socket
Parts and supplies
- Alternator/power steering belt
Steps
- Remove the old belt
Loosen the lower 12mm alternator anchor nut, the upper 12mm anchor bolt, and the 12mm tension adjuster bolt, then tug on the belt to pivot the alternator and slip it off.
- Install the new belt
Loop it around all three pulleys, reaching through the wheel well for the harmonic balancer if needed, reposition the adjuster bolt and tighten the nut until the belt feels properly tensioned, tighten the top anchor bolt, run the engine briefly to confirm it's engaging correctly, then tighten the lower anchor nut.
