Difficulty: Beginner · About 30 min · Nissan Murano
Perform an oil change, including resetting the maintenance light, on a 2009-2014 Nissan Murano.
Tools you will need
- 14mm wrench
- Funnel
- Drain pan
- Cloth rags
Parts and supplies
- Engine oil
- Oil filter
Steps
- Check before you start
Remove the oil fill cap as a reminder not to start the car, and confirm no fluids need topping off first.
- Drain the old oil and filter
Move the plastic shield aside in the passenger fender well, loosen the oil filter there with a pan underneath and remove it, then loosen and remove the drain plug with a 14mm wrench to let the oil fully drain.
- Fit the new filter and drain plug
Coat the new filter's gasket with fresh oil, wipe the mounting surface clean, thread the filter on until snug plus a quarter to half turn, then reinstall and tighten the drain plug with the 14mm wrench.
- Fill with fresh oil
Fill the recommended amount through a funnel, replace the cap, run the engine briefly, then shut it off and check the level on the dipstick.
- Reset the maintenance light
With your foot off the brake, press the ignition button twice, then navigate the dash menu through Maintenance, Oil Filter, Engine Oil and Settings to set the new service mileage for both the oil and filter.
Check your vehicle’s repair manual for exact specifications and fit.
