Tools you will need
- Ratchet
- Socket extensions
- Flat blade screwdriver
- 8mm socket
- Phillips head screwdriver
Parts and supplies
- Tail light assembly
- Tail light bulb
Steps
- Swap just a bulb if that's all you need
Pry out the two plugs covering the mounting bolts, remove the two 8mm bolts, then pull the taillight out partway, twist the bulb sockets out counterclockwise, swap the bulb, and twist the socket back in.
- Remove the taillight for a full swap
Remove the cargo panel, spare tire and the panel beneath it, remove the clips on the panel near the bumper and take it off, remove the Phillips screw by the taillight, remove the jack and its cover, pry out the inner panel, disconnect the taillight's wiring harness, then pull its grommet and the light free.
- Install the new taillight
Push the harness and grommet back through, line up and push the new light into place, reconnect the harness, refit the inner panel and its screw, replace the jack and cover, refit the lower panel, spare tire and cargo panel, then reinstall the two 8mm bolts and their plugs.
