How To Replace Cabin Air Filter 04-09 Subaru Outback
Difficulty: Easy · About 15 min · Subaru Outback
Replace the cabin air filter behind the glove box on the Subaru Outback shown in the video, a 2008 car. Check the filter fit and glove box trim on your exact year before starting.
Tools you will need
- Phillips screwdriver
Parts and supplies
- Cabin air filter
Steps
- Lower the glove box
Open the glove box and remove the side trim. Detach the damper spring, squeeze the glove box sides inward to free their stops, then release the Phillips fastener and the right-side tab.
- Open the filter compartment
Take off the plastic access panel behind the glove box. Release its five Phillips clips, lift the tabs on the filter housing and slide the old filter out.
- Fit the new filter
Compare the replacement with the old filter and keep its orientation consistent. Slide it fully into the housing, close the filter tabs and secure the access panel and its clips.
- Reassemble and check
Refit the glove box on its side tabs, reinstall its fastener and reconnect the damper spring. Replace the side trim, close the glove box and check that it moves freely.
Check your vehicle’s repair manual for exact specifications and fit.
