Steps
- Raise the truck and pull the wheel
Pop off the lug nut covers and break the lug nuts loose with the truck still on the ground, then raise it, support it on jack stands and remove the wheel.
- Unbolt the old caliper
Remove the two Torx caliper bolts, push the piston back into the bore with a screwdriver against the old pad, then ease the caliper off the rotor and set it aside.
- Transfer the brake hose fitting to the new caliper
Pull the shipping plug from the new caliper, then move the banjo bolt and its fitting over from the old caliper, fitting a fresh copper washer on each side of the fitting before tightening.
- Mount the new caliper and torque it down
Slide the new caliper over the rotor and bracket, start the lower slide bolt by hand, then torque both Torx mounting bolts to roughly 75-80 ft-lb.
- Bleed the brakes
Top off the fluid reservoir, then have an assistant pump and hold the pedal while you crack the bleeder screw with a wrench; repeat until the fluid runs clear of air bubbles into the catch bottle.
- Reinstall the wheel
Seat the wheel, start the lug nuts by hand, lower the truck and torque the lugs to about 110 ft-lb in a crossing pattern, then snap the center cap and lug covers back on.
- Test the brakes before driving normally
Pump the pedal until it feels firm, then test stopping gently at 5 and 10 mph in a safe area before a full road test.
