Steps
- Loosen the hub nut and remove the wheel
With the car still on the ground, break the center hub nut loose, then loosen the lug nuts, raise and support the car, and pull the wheel.
- Remove the brake caliper and rotor
Unbolt the caliper and lift it aside, then pull the rotor off the hub.
- Free the old hub
Remove the T55 Torx bolts holding the hub to the backing plate (penetrating oil helps), separate the hub from the plate, clean the mating surfaces with a wire brush, remove the hub nut, then tap the axle with a hammer to break it loose and knock the hub off.
- Install the new hub
Clean and lightly lubricate the steering knuckle, seat the new hub, secure its Torx bolts and nuts to about 60 ft-lb, then thread the hub nut back on.
- Reassemble the brakes and torque everything
Refit the rotor and caliper (see a brake-specific guide for full detail), torque the hub nut to about 144 ft-lb and the lug nuts to about 75 ft-lb in a star pattern.
Check your vehicle’s repair manual for exact specifications and fit.
