Tools you will need
- Floor jack
- Jack stands
- 13mm socket
- 24mm socket
- Ratchet
- Torque wrench
- Drain pan
- Pick
- Cloth rags
Parts and supplies
- Engine oil
- Oil filter
- Oil filter O-ring
Steps
- Raise the car and drain the oil
Raise the car at the marked jacking point and support it on stands, then remove the 13mm drain plug into a pan, let it fully drain, and hand-tighten the plug before snugging it with the socket.
- Remove the cartridge filter housing
Loosen the oil filter housing's cap with a 24mm socket, let the oil trapped inside drain, then pull the cap off, remove the old filter element, and pick the old O-ring out of the housing.
- Fit a new filter and O-ring
Seat a new O-ring on the housing cap, drop the new filter element into the housing, then thread the cap back on by hand and torque it to about 18 ft-lb.
- Fill with fresh oil
Add the correct oil through the filler neck to the recommended amount, run the engine briefly to circulate it, then recheck the dipstick against the cross-hatched area and top off as needed.
- Reset the oil life monitor
Press the dash "Clr" button, scroll up to the Oil Life display, then hold "Clr" until it reads 100% Engine Oil Life.
Check your vehicle’s repair manual for exact specifications and fit.
