Steps
- Remove the wheel
Loosen the 21mm lug nuts, then raise and support the truck and pull the wheel.
- Remove the old tie rod end
Loosen its jam nut, pull the cotter pin, back off the 19mm castle nut, tap the knuckle with a hammer to break the stud loose, then unscrew the outer tie rod from the inner one, counting the turns it takes so you can match it on the new part.
- Install the new tie rod end
Thread the new tie rod onto the inner tie rod using the same turn count, seat its stud in the knuckle, install and torque the castle nut to about 67 ft-lb, turning further only to line up the cotter pin hole, fit a new cotter pin and bend it over, then tighten the jam nut against it.
- Reinstall the wheel
Torque the lug nuts to about 83 ft-lb, then have the front end aligned since the tie rod length was disturbed.
