Difficulty: Intermediate · About 45 min · Dodge Caravan
Replace a headlight bulb, or the full headlight assembly, on a 1996-1999 Dodge Caravan.
Tools you will need
- Ratchet
- Socket extensions
- Flat blade screwdriver
- Phillips head screwdriver
- 8mm socket
- 10mm socket
Parts and supplies
- Headlight bulb
- Headlight assembly
Steps
- Swap just the bulb if needed
Reach behind the headlight assembly, pull the rubber boot aside and unclip the retaining wire with a screwdriver, then swap the bulb and reseat the wire and boot.
- Remove the old headlight assembly
Remove its four 10mm bolts, removing the washer bottle's two 8mm bolts first for clearance; on the driver's side also disconnect the battery and unbolt the fuse box to move it aside, then pull the headlight forward and disconnect its bulbs and wiring.
- Install the new assembly
Reconnect the wiring and bulbs, line it up and bolt it back in, then refit the grille.
- Aim the headlights
Use the adjustment screws so the low beams sit about an inch below bulb height at 20 feet and the high beams sit level with the bulbs at the same distance.
Check your vehicle’s repair manual for exact specifications and fit.
