Difficulty: Moderate · About 60 min · Toyota Camry
Replace an outer rear tail light assembly on a 2012–2014 Toyota Camry. The video shows a 2013 Camry and removes the rear bumper cover for access; check the replacement assembly and side before ordering.
Tools you will need
- 10mm socket
- Ratchet
- Socket extensions
- Trim tool set
- Flat blade screwdriver
- Floor jack
- Jack stands
Parts and supplies
- Outer tail light assembly
Steps
- Open the trunk trim
Remove the push clips and fold back the trunk liner behind the lamp. Disconnect the bulb wiring, then remove the visible 10mm nuts. Move the harness clip and small cover to reach the hidden fourth nut.
- Release the bumper cover
Support the vehicle safely on jack stands. Remove the lower splash-shield clips and bolts and the wheel-well fasteners. Ease the bumper cover out of its side clips and pull it back for clearance; do not tug on attached wiring.
- Remove the old lamp
Pull the lamp straight out. Check that its old foam seal comes away with it and compare the mounting studs, sockets and new seal with the replacement before fitting.
- Seat and fasten the replacement
Guide the studs into the body, hold the lamp squarely against its foam seal and start all nuts by hand. Tighten them evenly until the lamp sits flush; avoid crushing the plastic studs.
- Reconnect and reassemble
Reconnect every lamp connector and the harness clip. Refit the trunk liner, bumper cover, wheel-well screws and lower shield fasteners. Check the tail, brake and turn-signal lights before driving.
Check your vehicle’s repair manual for exact specifications and fit.
