How to Replace Headlight 02-05 Mercury Mountaineer

Replace a headlight bulb or the full headlight assembly on a 2002-2005 Mercury Mountaineer.

Steps

1. Remove the old headlight

   Pull up its two retaining clips, push at the top while wedging it forward and out, pull it free, then pry back the harness's red lock clip with a screwdriver and disconnect it.

2. Service the bulbs

   Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise, pull the old bulb off, press on the new one, then twist the socket back clockwise. For the other bulb, twist off the headlight cover, disconnect the harness, twist its socket and ring counterclockwise, swap the bulb, then twist back in.

3. Install the new headlight

   Reconnect the wiring harness, push the headlight into the car, then refit its retaining clips.
