Difficulty: Intermediate · About 35 min · Honda Element
Replace the spark plugs on a 2003-2011 Honda Element.
Tools you will need
- Ratchet
- Socket extensions
- 5/8 inch spark plug socket
- 10mm socket
Parts and supplies
- Spark plugs
Steps
- Remove the old spark plug
Remove the ignition coil cover's two 10mm nuts, remove a coil's single 10mm bolt, unplug its connector, pull the coil straight up, then unscrew the spark plug with a 5/8 inch socket.
- Install the new plug and coil
Compare the new plug to the old one to confirm it matches, lower it into the well with an extension and thread it in carefully by hand to avoid cross-threading, tighten it until it bottoms out plus an extra quarter turn, dab dielectric grease on the coil's boot, reconnect it, bolt it down, then repeat for each remaining cylinder (two of the mounting studs also secure coils) before refitting the cover and its two nuts.
Check your vehicle’s repair manual for exact specifications and fit.
