Steps
- Loosen fasteners and remove the wheel
Pop the lug nut covers with a 19mm socket, pull the center cap, break the lug nuts loose with the car on the ground, then raise and support the car and remove the wheel. With an assistant pressing the brake pedal, break the 35mm axle nut loose.
- Remove the brake pads
Turn the rotor to access both caliper bolts, remove the two 14mm bolts, swing the caliper aside, and pry the old pads free with a screwdriver.
- Remove the rotor and caliper bracket
Remove the two 15mm bracket bolts, pull the bracket off, then slide the rotor off the hub.
- Free the old hub bearing
Thread the axle nut back on a few turns to protect the threads, strike it to break the axle loose from the hub, then remove the three 13mm hub bolts and strike the hub itself to knock it free of the knuckle.
- Install the new hub bearing
Hold the backing plate in place while seating the new hub assembly, start the three 13mm bolts, and thread the axle nut on by hand.
- Refit the rotor and bracket
Slide the rotor on and hold it with a single lug nut, check that the caliper bracket slide pins move freely (greasing them if not), then reinstall the bracket and torque its bolts to about 35 ft-lb.
- Reinstall the brake pads and caliper
Grease the pad backing, seat the pads in the bracket, swing the caliper back on, and torque its bolts to about 35 ft-lb.
- Reinstall the wheel and torque everything
Seat the wheel, hand-tighten the lugs, lower the car, then torque the lug nuts to about 100 ft-lb in a crossing pattern and the axle nut to about 159 ft-lb.
- Test the brakes before driving
Pump the pedal until it feels firm, test stopping gently at 5 and 10 mph, then road test before driving normally.
Check your vehicle’s repair manual for exact specifications and fit.
