How To Replace Tail Light 00-04 Subaru Outback

Replace a tail light bulb or the full tail light assembly on a 2000-2004 Subaru Outback.
Tools you will need
- Ratchet
- Socket extensions
- Flat blade screwdriver
- 8mm socket
Parts and supplies
- Tail light assembly
- Tail light bulb
Steps
- Remove the tail light
Pry off the trim panel behind the light, remove its 8mm nut, pry off the smaller upper trim panel and remove its 8mm nut, then pull the light out and disconnect its wiring harness.
- Swap the bulbs
Twist each bulb base counterclockwise, pull the old bulb out, insert the new one, then twist it clockwise to lock.
- Install the new tail light
Reconnect the wiring harness, line up the bracket's bolt holes, refit the 8mm bolts, then press both trim panels back on.
